Director Grigsby Congratulates Deputy Director Sherif

The Director of the Witness Protection Agency, Honorable Teklo Maxwell Grigsby, II congratulates his Deputy Director, Hon. Varney Ali Sirleaf for the honor bestowed upon him as Integrity Ambassador by his former employer, the Internal Audit Agency (IAA).

The recognition was part of a ceremony held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town to celebrate the Internal Audit Agency’s achievement as the third-ranked institution in the government's Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS) for 2025.

Honorable Varney Ali Sherif, Deputy Director of the Witness Protection Agency (WPA) was praised by hi former boss, Hon. David A. Kemah, Director General of the IAA for his dedication to transparency and accountability during his service at the IAA.

Deputy Director Sherif is one of nine IAA staff members appointed by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai to high-level leadership roles across various government agencies and his contribution to the work of the Witness Protection is already yielding fruit at the newly established institution.

In response to the honor, Deputy Director Sherif appreciated the IAA for the award and honor bestowed on him, which according to him, signifies IAA growing desire to see former and current personnel succeed in whatever capacity they serve.

He also congratulated the IAA for their exceptional performance, which earned them the Prestigious Presidential recognition under the Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS) as the third top performing entity.

Hon. Sherif, who also served as Audit Director prior to his appointment as Deputy Director to the Witness Protection Agency (WPA) expressed joy that he contributed meaningfully to the IAA’s achievement and proudly share the accolade with the IAA.

He recalled the efforts, discipline, diligence, and the integrity he had to maintain and uphold to shape his professional journey in a positive way.

He notes, “This award is a testament to the vision of strong leadership, a dedicated staff, and the belief that accountability, transparency, and integrity are the cornerstones of good governance.”

Now, as the Deputy Director of the WPA, Hon. Sherif reassures the IAA that those positive values and character will be utilize in support of the mandate of the Witness Protection Agency.

“I see how these same principles-performance, compliance and transparency are essential in safeguarding justice and protecting lives,” Hon. Sherif acknowledged.

“This honor is not only the celebration of past achievements but also a call to sustain excellence and deepen our collective effort to serve the Liberian People,” Hon. Sherif reminded the staff.

He concluded his remarks by paying homage to his former bosses and workmates, especially IAA Deputy Director James Kerkulah, who continue to ensure that IAA delivers exceptionally to the fight against corruption in Liberia.

“I also assure you and reaffirm the WPA’s commitment to uphold the public trust by promoting transparency accountability, specifically through the Witnesses Protection Act of 2021 and Whistleblowers Protection Act of 2021.

The IAA received its Presidential Recognition on April 21, 2026, for its "par excellence" performance. Under the PMCS framework, the agency has now signed its 2026 performance contract, with the goal of becoming the number one performing entity in Liberia.
